1. Manufacturers used for network devices
IT professionals have a horde of manufacturers available for their networking projects. Here’s what they’re using:
Key takeaways:
- Cisco clearly has the lion’s share of the networking market, but other manufacturers shouldn’t be discouraged. According to an article by Forbes.com, due to competition, Cisco’s market share has fallen from more than 60% in 2011 and 2012 to 52.7% in 2016. This closely reflects the 54% Cisco share that we discovered from our survey.
- The most common “other” submission for routers & switches is Extreme, Ubiquiti for wireless access points and WatchGuard for firewalls.
2. Manufacturers used for server/storage
Cisco may be the top choice when it comes to networking, but other manufacturers prove to be more popular when it comes to server/storage projects.

- The most popular “other” route for servers is Nutanix and NetApp for storage.

Final analysis:
Cisco and Dell account for the majority of what IT professionals are choosing for their networking and server/storage projects. However, other manufacturers like HP, NetApp and IBM are not to be discounted.
